After several books about the details of how school works in Finland, author Sahlberg (who now lives in Australia, which turns out to be helpful), takes a higher-level view. In essence, this book asks a very important question: "who should be trusted with the education of our children?"From my perspective, the only reasonable answer to that question is "the teachers." Sahlberg's guidance: when a society selects its teachers with great care and provides them with abundant support, school becomes a less complicated experience. The simplicity of this argument runs in parallel with trust in childhood. Apparently, in Finland, children are encouraged to play multiple times each day, regardless of weather conditions.
